Student Health Insurance

Massachusetts law requires students to enroll in their college’s student health insurance plan or participate in a plan with comparable coverage. If you have any questions please contact us and we will be happy to assist you.

Required for Students Who Are:

  • Attending classes within Massachusetts, and
  • Enrolled in a degree or certificate program, and
  • Enrolled full-time or three-quarter time (undergraduate: 9 credits or more; graduate: 6 credits or more, as of last day of the add/drop period.)

See important current information and enroll.
ConnectorCare Plans are also available to Massachusetts residents. Costs are based on income.

Petition to Waive

Students who have insurance with comparable coverage may waive out of student health insurance by submitting an annual petition to waive by the term deadline.

When
Your petition to waive must be submitted in the first term of enrollment and every fall term thereafter. Students returning after a leave of absence must submit the waiver request in the term when they return.

Term Deadlines - Last day to waive health insurance:

  • for Fall 2023 term - September 30, 2023
  • for Spring 2024 term - January 31, 2024

How to Waive
See Health Insurance and follow online instructions and external link to submit your petition to waive.

In so doing, you grant permission for the insurance provider to audit your insurance information, and if it is found to be falsified, inactive, or non-comparable to Massachusetts criteria, you will be enrolled in the insurance plan and will be charged the full insurance premium.

University Health Plans can be reached at 800-437-6448 or info@univhealthplans.com

Cost
Students who do not submit an annual waiver request by the deadline are automatically enrolled in and charged for the College’s student health insurance plan. Coverage is based on a plan year beginning September 1st and ending August 31st.  Once enrolled, students are covered for the remainder of the plan year.

Cambridge College remains focused on being cost effective and sensitive to today’s economic conditions, but unfortunately, due to the current trend in health insurance mandates and plan usage; the increases are necessary in order to remain compliant with health care reform mandates. The current increases and the total cost of health insurance at Cambridge College remain competitive to those of our peer institutions.
