Cambridge College's New Dean of Education

Dr. Sheila Wright

Cambridge College is proud to introduce Dr. Sheila Wright as the new Dean for the School of Education. 

Sheila Wright, PhD is a former professor, dean, and commissioner in higher education with over 30 years of experience in not-for-profit, state government, P-12 education, and higher education sectors. Her expertise is in innovative, interdisciplinary pedagogical practices; faculty career trajectories, perfor­ mance, and professional identity; curricular governance and assessment; and policy and practices leading to increased access for and responsiveness to the learning success of all, from preschool through higher education.

As commissioner of higher education in Minnesota, Wright advocated greater collaboration across sectors, student access and career success, and shared strategic directions among educational levels and institutions along with continued funding for higher education and awareness of its role in sup­porting personal growth, professional performance, and the economy. As dean at Hamline University in Minnesota, Wright facilitated program alignment in the School of Education with the campus mission and strategic directions and advanced partnerships and awareness of various programs and initiatives in teacher education, ESL, literacy, environmental education, and urban teaching.

Prior to Hamline, Wright served as a tenured faculty member and associ­ate dean of academic programs in the School of Education for Saint Xavier University in Chicago. Within the broader community, Wright was a board of trustees' member  for a college of nursing and worked with graduate students and faculty in schools and other universities in the Chicago area. Additionally, she taught in the Education Department at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota and the College of Education at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

As a scholar, Wright has numerous presentations, has published work both in education and the arts, and supervised over 140 graduate research proj­ects. She earned her PhD in curriculum and instruction from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, MAE from the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, and BFA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
