Mandela Washington Fellows - Week One
Twenty-five of Africa's emerging leaders in business and entrepreneurship arrived at Cambridge College (CC) last week to embark upon an intensive six-week business and entrepreneurship skill-building program. Cambridge College is proud to be one of 37 institutions and one of three in Massachusetts to have been chosen by the U.S. Department of State to host these emerging leaders from Sub-Saharan Africa.
The Mandela Washington Fellowship is the flagship program of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) and embodies President Obama's commitment to invest in the future of Africa. Through this initiative, African leaders are gaining the skills and connections they need to accelerate their own career trajectories and contribute more robustly to strengthening democratic institutions, spurring economic growth, and enhancing peace and security in Africa.
Our cohort of Fellows are a part of a larger prestigious group of 1,000 Mandela Fellows being hosted by select institutions across the United States. The Mandela Washington Fellowship is a program of the United States Government. The U.S. components are administered by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and supported by IREX, a U.S. non-governmental agency.
At the conclusion of their six-week program at Cambridge College, our twenty-five Fellows will meet with President Barack Obama during a Summit in Washington, D.C. Select Fellows will also have the opportunity to stay in the U.S. to participate in another six-week intensive learning program with other U.S. companies and government agencies.
