SOE Dean's visit to Puerto Rico public schools
Dr. Sheila Wright, Dean in the School of Education, recently visited with local school officials and the staff and students at three schools in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The San Juan I School District and the Department of Education of Puerto Rico supported her in the process. Accompanied by Dr. Mendez-Hernandez Santiago, Director of Cambridge College's campus in Puerto Rico, the visit included conversations with Jose Maldonado, Luis Amador, and Milton Garcé who are all leaders of the Rafael Hernández, Trina Padilla de Sanz and Nemesio R. Canales schools. Drs. Wright and Santiago also visited the classroom of Linnete Gigante, a student of Cambridge College's Autism Specialist program in Puerto Rico.
Education programs offered in Puerto Rico include a number of certification programs for both teachers and leaders. Dr. Wright was impressed especially by the quality of leadership supportive of education in the schools visited and commented on the level of commitment to the community and overall support for student learning. She stated, "The collaboration among teachers, leaders, and parents embody a shared commitment to students that inspires new possibilities for partnership with the schools visited."
